L-Glutamine

Glutamine, an amino acid found mainly in skeletal muscle, plays a tremendous role in many key processes in the body to help keep you healthy and fit:

  • Key component of glutathione, our most important and abundant antioxidant*
  • Energy source for the brain*
  • Helps to neutralize sugar cravings*
  • Used clinically to support healthy digestion by helping repair “Leaky Gut”*
  • Helps muscles to relax and rebuild.*
  • Acid-alkaline balance*
  • Nitrogen supply for protein synthesis*
  • Production of glutathione (the body’s main detoxifier) and other nutrients in the body*
  • Helps muscles to relax and rebuild*

How can I make sure I’m getting enough glutamine?
Normally, glutamine is “nonessential amino acid,” meaning the body can make it from other amino acid building blocks. However, any stress on the body - emotional stress, physical stress, exercise, or infections - will contribute to glutamine depletion.

Under enough stress, glutamine can become depleted enough that it can become “essential,” meaning it has to be supplied by the diet. This is why glutamine is considered to be a “conditionally essential” amino acid. During times of illness or trauma, glutamine is required in higher amounts due to increased glutamine depletion from skeletal muscle. [Source Natural Medicines Database]

Glutamine and Leaky Gut
Aside from supporting skeletal muscle, L-glutamine provides a prefered source of fuel to the cells lining the intestines, allowing the gut to heal itself and correct “leaky gut syndrome.” It’s a critical component of any gut healing plan.

Glutamine and Glutathione
L-glutamine is one of the three amino acids used by the body to synthesize glutathione, the body’s most important and abundant antioxidant and detoxifier.

Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice

Licorice root has been used as food and medicine for thousands of years to treat a wide variety of illnesses ranging from liver disease to the common cold. Naturally sweet, the root has soothing, coating properties, and is still used today for a variety of conditions.

Formulated to Protect Blood Vessels and Fluid Balance
Licorice contains a natural compound called glycirrhiza, which is known to affect blood pressure and water retention. These effects can be avoided by removing glycirrhiza, which is why Glutamine Plus is formulated with deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL).

DGL for Gut Healing
DGL soothes the entire lining of the digestive tract to support gastrointestinal health. It is often used to reduce stomach inflammation, heal stomach ulcers and ease heartburn symptoms.

Naturally Sweet!
Licorice is 50 times sweeter than sugar, and DGL gives Glutamine Plus a pleasant, sweet flavor.

Inner Aloe Leaf Extract - Fit for a Pharaoh

Aloe vera, or Aloe barbadensis, is a tropical succulent that has been used medicinally for thousands of years. The early Egyptians referred to it as the “plant of immortality.” Highly regarded, aloe was included as burial gifts to pharaohs.

Aloe for Gut Healing
Aloe leaves have a gel-like fluid within their leaves that is commonly used as a topical ointment for burns and wounds. The gel from within the inner leaf can be also be used internally for digestive support.

No Laxative Effect
The aloe leaf extract in Glutamine Plus is specially formulated for to support a healthy intestinal lining, and has been formulated to remove the bitter compounds of aloe to prevent a laxative effect.

Special note: Whole leaf aloe extract, made from the latex outer portion of aloe leaves, has been shown to trigger cramping and diarrhea in some people. It has also been flagged as a potential carcinogen. It is important to note that this is NOT the portion of the plant found in Glutamine Plus. Glutamine Plus is formulated with inner aloe leaf gel powder, which is not associated with these adverse effects.
