Ingredient highlights:

Curcuminoids
Curcuminoids are the anti-inflammatory powerhouses inside the golden spice turmeric. It is a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial herb. Turmeric has been used for its medicinal properties for centuries, and recent studies how confirmed many of its benefits. Curcumin’s anti-inflammatory action works via many different signaling molecules in the body, including pro-inflammatory cytokines, C-reactive protein, and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and its benefits have been reported extensively in several neurological diseases.

Curcumin reportedly enhances the synthesis of DHA in the brain, and may have synergistic effects with transresveratrol as well.

Transresveratrol
Resveratrol is a natural polyphenolic compound found in several types of antioxidant-rich plants. Research supports its neuroprotective effects, including research on Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. As a powerful antioxidant, it is thought to protect neurons against oxidative damage and toxicity.*

Omega-3 Fatty Acids: EPA & DHA
Many people know that omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory, but you may not know that they’re specifically known to protect the brain. The two major forms, EPA and DHA, do this in unique ways. For example, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) has been associated with beneficial effects on mood, whereas DHA has research behind it in association with Alzheimer’s disease. These fats specifically help to protect and improve the health of cell membranes in the brain.

Alpha-GPC
Alpha-GPC (alpha-glycerylphosphorylchlorine) is a choline-containing molecule found in a variety of foods. Choline is a precursor of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which has been shown to support a wide range of cognitive functions including memory formation and recall, learning ability, and the ability to concentrate and focus. The alpha form of this molecule has the added benefit of being able to cross the blood-brain barrier and directly increase the amount of circulating acetylcholine levels in the central nervous system.

Alpha-GPC also has the ability to increase phosphatidylcholine levels — a crucial molecule for proper cellular structure and signaling.

Uridine
Uridine is a naturally-occurring nucleic acid that supports cognitive function. Babies get a healthy dose of uridine in mother’s milk or infant formula to support their rapidly growing brains, as it is one of the key nutrients for synaptogenesis — the formation of neural connections in the brain. It is thought to serve as another supportive nutrient for healthy cell membranes.
