Spice and Sunshine: The Magic of Golden Milk

Spice and Sunshine: The Magic of Golden Milk

Forget pumpkin spice lattes, there's a new warm and cozy drink in town, and it's got ancient wisdom flowing through its golden veins. We're talking about golden milk, a turmeric-infused beverage with a rich history and a taste that's as vibrant as its color. And we, Maya and Sylvie, are here to share our own twist on this magical potion, straight from our cozy kitchen to your screens!

In our latest video, you'll see us sisterly duo whipping up a batch of this comforting elixir, spilling secrets alongside ingredients as we go. But we didn't want you to just watch – we wanted you to taste the sunshine too! So, here's the recipe in all its turmeric-tinged glory:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups unsweetened milk or other type of milk as preferred
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground turmeric (freshly ground, if possible)
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon or cinnamon stick
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper or 2-4 black pepper corns
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon honey, maple syrup, or your preferred sweetener (to taste)
  • ½ tablespoon coconut oil or ghee or unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together the milk, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper and coconut oil.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring frequently, until just warm for about 7 minutes. Don't let it boil, as it can make the turmeric bitter.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in your chosen sweetener.
  4. Strain the mixture into mugs (optional, but it ensures a smooth texture).
  5. Snuggle up, take a sip, and let the golden glow seep into your soul.

Sisterly Tips:

  • Adding coconut oil, ghee or butter (fat) and black pepper,  help to dissolve the curcumin and allows it to be more readily absorbed into the bloodstream and used by the body.
  • Feel free to adjust the spices to your preference.
  • Experiment with different milks! Oat milk offers a creamy sweetness, while hemp milk adds a nutty goodness.
  • Got fresh turmeric root? Grate it and add it along with the warm milk for an extra potent dose of turmeric goodness.

Golden milk is more than just a drink; it's a ritual, a moment of shared warmth and self-care. So gather your loved ones, whip up a batch, and let the conversation flow as freely as the golden goodness in your mugs. And the good news doesn't stop there! This magical elixir boasts a secret weapon: curcumin, the bioactive compound within turmeric that's packed with health benefits.
