SPM Active for Anti-Inflammatory Support

Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators (SPMs) act as chemical messengers in the body's immune response. They are produced at affected part of the body and help to resolve inflammation.

How are SPMs different from omega-3 fatty acids?

Although our body can use omega-3 fatty acids like EPA and DHA to generate SPMs, there are many enzymatic steps involved in this process. The impact of aging, poor diet and general health status can inhibit the body's production of SPMs from these fatty acids. Supplementing with SPMs directly provides a more targeted and direct support for the body's affected tissues to return to health.

Research supports the idea that pro-resolving mediators (aka resolvins) may help reduce inflammation, including neuroinflammation:

Resolvin D1, an endogenous lipid mediator for inactivation of inflammation-related signaling pathways in microglial cells, prevents lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammatory responses.

Resolvin D1 promotes the interleukin-4-induced alternative activation in BV-2 microglial cells.
